The Flickering Lights of Warsaw
--
At times it seems as if no one is listening to you. I know this feeling all to well.
So, how do you deal with that?
You keep speaking, talking, doing. That’s it.
I know that seems like a cop out, it’s not. I think that this true story from WWII Poland will help you to see what I’m talking about.
Poland was under Nazi occupation. The Polish people had been stripped of all their rights, Warsaw was turned into a literal prison.
A Polish couple that lived on the fringes of the city decided that they had, had enough. Both of them worked in radio before the occupation.
Every night the couple would sneak out their home and head to a random neighbors house, where they would broadcast an 8 minute inspired, positive messages to their fellow hostage Poles.
They had to keep their messages short so that the Germans couldn’t find their position. The couple kept this up for months. Never knowing if their inspired messages were being heard.
During one particular broadcast right before their 8 minutes were up they ask the Polish people “If you can hear this message, flicker your lights.”
They powered down their makeshift broadcast system and headed back to their home.
As they followed the path that over looked the city of Warsaw they were astonished to see the entire city was flicking on and off.
Keep on Keeping on. You can do this. Things will seem at times like there just not working.
Keep the FAITH, be persistent, and consistent.
Their listening.
