How Financial Freedom Seekers Can STOP Trading Time For Money Successfully Trading On The FOREX
It was Christmas of 1985. The holidays were a bit more awkward and tense this year since the parents had decided to separate.
Tired of the fighting and being shipped back and forth every weekend. Me and Jay decided that we should at least get something for our troubles.
Earlier that year we were over at our cousin Dave’s house. That’s the first time we had seen the newest of home convenience the Commodore Vic 20 home computer.
We both were instantly hooked the newest in home electronics.
Long story short, we played our parents against one another to get our very own Commodore 64 with all the trimmings, colored monitor, the “HIPPO” of disk drives the 1541, click,click,clllack, bddlll, you know the sound.
For the rest of Christmas break every waking hour was spent learning everything this Cadillac of computers could do.
Christmas break turned into summer break and soon enough we were starting a new school year.
It was my Freshman year, in 1986 the city decided that it would a good idea to close two of the three high schools which tripled the student body count of the only High school left.
To help out with the influx of new students Freshmen were assigned a senior. Jim was my Senior and he was a computer nerd just like me.
A few months into the year Jim’s family had decided to move out of state. On his last day of school he pulled me aside and gave me what I thought was a game for my computer.
When I got home that night I grabbed the cartridge out of my book bag, to my surprise it wasn’t a game at all. It was a 30 baud modem.
At the time I had know idea what it was or even how to use it. Luckily, Jim had written out directions that walked me through the setup.
For those of you young’ns out there who don’t know the struggle here is how you connected to what would eventually become the internet:
1, Dial the phone number of the BBS you want to connect to.
(BBS stands for Bulletin Board System. It’s the first “WEB PAGE”.)
2, Wait for the BBS to answer, you’ll know when it answers sounds something like this BING- BONG- DWWWULLL- BEEP- BEEP- BONG…
3, When you hear that unplug the phone line from the back of the phone and plug it into the modem. And at the speed of 1986, BAM you’re connected.
In about 10 to 15 minutes a screen will appear with all the 64 to 120K games you could possibly want to down load.
Choose your files wisely cuz your phone is going to be tied up for awhile.
I would wake up a couple hours early for school go through the 30 minute process of connecting, before I would go up for breakfast I would start a download, If I was lucky by the time I got home from school it would done.
I remember, one download I did took 3 days to finish. My dad was so pissed every time he picked up the phone receiver his eardrums were hit with the high pitched squeaks and squeals of the Basic Bulletin Board System.
He never once disconnected the line.
I’m telling this story because it amazes me the journey that started 35 years ago from a friend passing me a piece of early technology that changed my life.
What used to take days for me collect 120K of FREE games and content has now evolved into something I now use to earn money in just minutes.
